Stripper Deck

A Stripper Deck is a set of playing cards that have the sides of the cards are slightly tapered, so that one end is wider than the other. One card is removed by a volunteer, and replaced after the magician has turned the deck end for end. The deck can be shuffled, as long as the wide end and narrow ends do not become mixed. The one inverted card can easily be slipped out of the deck from the narrow end because it is wider than the rest of the cards.

It is not difficult to make your own stripper cards. The cards used can be playing cards, pictures of wild animals, or simply blank cards. The volunteer may be asked to sign the face of the card to be sure there is no substitution of cards. They can then keep the signed card, once it has been found in the deck. The magician can force a particular card if it is needed for another trick or has a hidden message on the opposite side. However, any card that is put back into the deck, after it has been reversed, can be found again by feeling for the slightly wider edges.
